The quality of racing speaks for itself on day one with three fantastic Group 1 races. First up is one of the week’s hottest contests, for horses 4yrs old and over - the Queen Anne Stakes.

Queen Anne Stakes
This year sees a star studded line up with Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Goldikova the 7/4 favourite. He won the Prix D’Ispahan at Longchamp 23 days ago and the record books show that a recent run is important for this race as nine of the last ten winners had run in the previous 40 days.

Last year’s winner Paco Boy is 3/1 and he is coming off a dominating victory in last month’s Lockinge Stakes. He will appreciate the good conditions, but no horse has won this race twice in a row since Dean Swift in 1907.

Don’t rule out Aidan O’Brien’s Rip Van Winkle (7/2), winner of two Group 1s last year. O’Brien has saddled two of the past four winners and Rip Van Winkle won over 1m at Ascot in September’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. The race tomorrow is run over the new straight mile whereas September’s QEII was run over the old (round) mile. But all winning form at Ascot is noteworthy and Rip Van Winkle has every chance of further success tomorrow.
