Cheltenham Gold Cup Day!
After three days of thrilling jumps action all eyes turn to the Cheltenham Gold Cup as Kauto Star and Denman square off for the third time. Although Kauto Star (5/6) has two Gold Cups to his name, the head to head score is 1-1. Ruby Walsh will be onboard Kauto and AP McCoy will be on Denman (9/2). ‘The Tank’ unseated McCoy at Newbury last month, which raised serious questions about his chances. The fall has overshadowed his impressive Hennessy victory in November when carrying top weight.
Imperial Commander isĀ 7/1, he came second to Kauto in a very close finish in November’s Betfair Chase, but was a disappointing fifth in the King George VI. However, his connection’s will be boosted by the fact that no ten-year-old has won the Gold Cup since Cool Dawn in 1998, which goes against Nicholls’ big two - all the late odds available from Ladbrokes.com for the big day.
